Welcome to Making Inferences!
I’m Rolando, a Texas educator with 14 years of experience teaching high school English Language Arts. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to teach a wide range of courses including:
- English I
- English II
- English III
- English IV
- Creative Writing
- Developmental Writing
- STAAR English EOC Prep
- OnRamps Intro to Rhetoric: Reading, Writing, and Research (Composition I)
- OnRamps Reading and Writng the Rhetoric of American Identities (Composition II)
Most of my career has been spent serving students in Title I schools, where I’ve worked extensively with both first-time and retesting students in tested English courses. I’ve also taught dual enrollment English through the OnRamps program, preparing students for the expectations of college-level reading, writing, and research. These experiences have allowed me to support students at every stage of their academic journey, from those needing targeted intervention to those ready for advanced coursework. My passion is helping students build the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills they need to succeed—not only on state assessments and in the classroom, but also in college, careers, and everyday life.
This blog is an extension of that work. Here, you’ll find practical instructional strategies, classroom resources, and ideas I’ve gathered, refined, and created over years of teaching. Some are inspired by educational research while others were born out of the realities of everyday classroom practice.
Whether you’re a new teacher looking for inspiration or a veteran educator searching for fresh ideas, I hope my ideas save you time, spark new thinking, or become valuable additions to your instructional toolkit.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you find something here that makes your teaching just a little easier and your students a little more successful.
